En route stop for a guided visit to the ancient city of Pompeii, frozen in time after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 immortalized the prosperous town for eternity. Then on to Sorrento. Enjoy some free time to explore the town’s cobblestone streets, its seafront promenade and have dinner on your own. Overnight.

Day 5 / Get inspired by overwhelming panorama’s on the Amalfi Coast

Breakfast. Today you’ll discover the Amalfi Coast, one of Europe's most dramatic shorelines. See the brightly coloured houses set on towering cliffs above the sea, and the houses in the town of Amalfi built between the 10th and 13th centuries. Then it's on to Ravello, with its stupendous views on the coast. Visit the exquisite gardens of Villa Rufolo, the former residence of several popes. Enjoy your lunch of delightful homemade dishes at a family-owned restaurant. Return to Sorrento for a truly magical evening with dinner at the Teatro Tasso to enjoy the tradition of two centuries of Neapolitan dances and costumes.

Day 6 / Discover the greek ruins in Paestum and visit a Buffalo Farm en route to Matera

Day 7 / Explore the Sassi di Matera, outstanding example of a rock-cut settlement

Breakfast. Discover the beautiful site of Matera. This is the most outstanding, intact example of a troglodyte settlement in the Mediterranean region, perfectly adapted to its terrain and ecosystem. The Sassi and the Park of the Rupestrian Churches of Matera comprises a complex of houses, churches, monasteries and hermitages built into the natural caves of the Murgia. Meet your local guide and visit the 9,000-year-old Sassi di Matera cave dwellings, including the Casa Grotta di Vico Solitario and the chiese rupestri, or “rock churches”; view the Cathedral, Palazzo del Sedile and the Tramontano Castle, which has sat unfinished since the early 16th century. Enjoy some free time for lunch and for a last wander around the cobblestone streets of Matera. Overnight.

Breakfast. Today we will tour the Trulli area. Visit the town of Locorotondo and enjoy a wine-tasting and lunch at a typical masseria. In the afternoon see some of the most unusually built homes, the trulli, in Alberobello. These limestone dwellings are remarkable examples of drywall (mortarless) construction, a prehistoric building technique still in use in this region. Characteristically, they feature pyramidal, domed or conical roofs built up of corbelled limestone slabs. Overnight.

Day 9 / Unique Neapolis

Breakfast. Departure to Naples, one of Italy's epicurean heavyweights serving up the country's best pizza, pasta and coffee. Arrival and lunch in a typical Napoletanean pizzeria.
